2025 Emmys Supporting Actress Drama Predictions

Variety Awards Circuit section is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year, featuring the following: the official predictions for the upcoming Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Tony Awards ceremonies, curated by Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Commentary (Updated June 10, 2025): The drama supporting actor and actress races saw an uptick in submissions but fell short of giving us eight nominees: 233 and 227 names are on the ballot, respectively (up from 217 and 196 in 2024), yielding seven nominees.

Led by a career-defining performance from Noah Wyle, “The Pitt” unfolds over 15 gripping episodes, each capturing a single hour of an emergency room shift in real time, a la Fox’s “24.” But it’s not just Wyle drawing attention. The ensemble cast of “The Pitt” is filled with emerging talent delivering standout actors. Fiona Dourif (best known for the “Chucky” franchise) and Katherine LaNasa (“Truth Be Told”) have already generated awards chatter and would fit nicely alongside the large number of “White Lotus” women. Supporting players Tracy Ifeachor, Shabana Azeez, Isa Briones and Supriya Ganesh also shine in emotionally potent storylines that tackle trauma, addiction and medical ethics with nuance and authenticity.

Elsewhere, Allison Janney from “The Diplomat,” has won seven Emmys and could well pick up an eighth trophy for her scene-stealing role in the Netflix thriller. If she won, she would tie the record alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cloris Leachman.

Both can benefit if too many women from HBO Max’s “The White Lotus” are nominated and could become casualties of vote-splitting.

The Emmys eligibility period ends on May 31. Nomination voting runs from June 12 to June 23, with official nominations set to be announced July 15.
