7 Clever Milk Frother Hacks That Go Way Beyond Coffee

7 Clever Milk Frother Hacks That Go Way Beyond Coffee

Single-use tools aren’t always the best use of kitchen space, but just because you bought something for a sole purpose, doesn’t mean you can’t multi-task with it. Take a milk frother, for example. These battery-powered wands are great for frothing milk for your morning coffee or tea, but the hand whisk with a little extra force behind it is amazing for many more kitchen uses. Just be sure to wash the whisk well between sweet and savory uses (try soaking it in white vinegar and baking soda if scents lurk). Here are some creative ways to use a milk frother that go way beyond your morning coffee.

Emulsify Salad Dressings

Oil and vinegar notoriously do not blend, and whisking the two together can be, let’s face it, annoying. Use a milk frother to emulsify homemade salad dressings so that they don’t separate at the table. You may want a separate milk frother for this, as strong scents can linger into your coffee…

Blend Matcha

It’s not traditional, but it works. If whisking powdered matcha and hot water with a bamboo skewer in a bowl feels too tedious, make your matcha ritual a little easier by using a milk frother instead. Just mix the matcha powder (preferably sifted through a fine strainer to eliminate clumps), with hot water and whisk. Then, add more water and milk to make a matcha latte. This also works with any other tea powder, like chai latte mix, or hot cocoa mix, of course.

Mix Supplements

If you add collagen, protein powder, electrolytes or other supplements to beverages, you can help them dissolve by mixing them into the liquid with a milk frother. Goodbye, gross granules!

Scramble Eggs

Make sure the yolks and whites blend together by using a milk frother! Add a splash of milk, cream, or water to a bowl of cracked eggs to ensure fluffiness, and then froth. Once the eggs are blended, pour them into a pan and cook as usual. This can also work for steamed eggs, or other recipes that call for scrambled eggs.

Reconstitute Separated Alt-Milks

If you make your own nut milks, it’s likely the water separates from the top after a day or two, because you’re not using a chemical thickener. That’s fine, but you can get the texture back to perfect with a few quick whisks of your frother.

Fix Separated Nut and Seed Butters

If your nut or seed butters have separated, leaving a pool of oil on top, bring them back together with a little help from a frother. Scoop the nut butter into a large bowl or deep cup, and slowly use your milk frother to blend the oil back into the base. It works, but be careful of oil splatters.

Make a Foamy Cocktail Topping

Want a mixologist-worthy drink? Froth it! Use a milk frother to aerate an egg white or aquafaba to top a cocktail with. If you really want to get fancy, add some flavor, like dehydrated berries, to that light foam.
