A handbag might seem like a tiny detail—a last minute item to grab before running out the door—but this accessory has a way of completing your fit and even serving as the star of the show. Just like you’ve swapped your cardigans and thick knits for flowy blouses and breathable linen, spring is the perfect time to switch up your handbag game. For some arm candy inspiration, we asked personal stylists about the biggest spring handbag trends they’re loving this season.
Raffia and Straw Bags

Texture is a definite do this spring, and a purse is a great way to incorporate some into your outfit. Think fringed raffia and woven straw totes.
“The fringe trend has been popular since fall and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. As we get into warmer weather, we’re going to see ways to apply this trend in such a fun and summery way,” says Dianne Boyer, a certified personal stylist and founder of Dianne In Style. “From a beach vacation to running errands, it will always give off a chic seasonal vibe to what you’re wearing.”
Bright Red

Bright red is a popular spring 2025 hue, though it’s one of those colors that’s hard to pull off in a big way. Weaving the hue in through a handbag gives a nice pop without feeling like too much. Jenni Lee, celebrity fashion stylist and image consultant, says that she’s particularly seeing a fusion of red, black and white rising in popularity.
“Red, black, and white isn’t just another palette—it’s visual dynamite with serious historical weight,” Lee says. “We’ve seen this combo surge during the Russian Revolution, dominate the ’80s, define the indie sleaze era with bands like The White Stripes, and now it’s commanding attention across spring runways.”
Crafty Knits

Along with texture through raffia, straw, and fringe, we’re seeing a rise in crafty or artisanal knit purses. This is an evolution from pandemic hobby to style statement, and even the big fashion houses are getting in on it.
“With Bottega Veneta leading and designers like Stella McCartney and Giambattista Valli following, knitted bags represent fashion’s current obsession with texture and artisanal craftsmanship,” Lee says. She adds, “The secret to elevating knit bags is strategic contrast. Pair your woven carryall with crisp, structured pieces like a razor-sharp blazer or pressed cotton shirt.”
Rodeo Chic

This is rodeo as in cowboy, not the famous California Drive. “Western- and rodeo-style is at the center of the cultural zeitgeist,” says Susan Thacker, handbag expert and CEO of Brahmin Luxury Leather. “Across music and fashion, western styling is blended with modern details, natural elements and pops of colors bringing fresh energy to a uniquely authentic styling trend.”
Bucket Bags

Fashion gurus have declared 2025 the year of the bucket bag, and they’re not wrong. This nostalgic silhouette has enjoyed a reemergence with some modern updates. “Whether mini or oversized, the bucket bags continue to gain momentum this season, proving their staying power in every wardrobe,” says Kelli Seid, director of merchandising and creative for Bag Borrow or Steal. “Pair with a sleek monochrome outfit or tie a colorful scarf on the handle to give your outfit that pop of color and style.”
Stripes Galore

Stripes are a little bit nautical and summertime preppy, and a fun way to add a little pizzazz. “From the nautical perspective, we’ll see a lot of stripes in canvas totes, especially from two classic looks—navy and white stripes and classic monogrammed looks,” Boyer says. “We’ll also see more multi-colored stripes, again in canvas, but we’ll also see it in other fabrics such as straw and leather.”
Elevated Denim

The words “elevated” and “denim” may seem a bit of an oxymoron, but the denim handbag trend has legit evolved into a sophisticated accessory for spring 2025. “Designers are exploring new ways to treat and texture denim, creating bags that blend the material’s casual roots with modern sophistication,” explains Vingi Wong, designer and creative director of NOIRGAZE. “From sleek finishes to innovative fabrications, this trend is all about re-imagining denim as a luxury fabric with a focus on wearability and durability.”
Bold Floral Embellishments

It’s basically a crime at this point to not add some florals to your fit come springtime. That goes for your handbag, too. “While florals are always in style for spring, this season’s floral patterns are stepping away from the dainty prints of seasons’ past and are trending towards bigger and bolder prints—and bags are following suit,” Boyer tells us. “Patterns on bags are more abstract and we’re also seeing floral embellishments and appliqués to make them even more interesting.”
Objets d’art

If you want to go even bigger with a bold, look at me purse, then you must add at least one or two Objets d’art handbags to your collection. “Wearable art is having its moment. From Thom Browne’s playful animal shapes to Cult Gaia’s architectural pieces, bags are becoming personal statements,” Lee says. “This artistic approach reaches new heights with designs like Erdem’s golden flower-handled Bloom Bag—perfect examples of function meeting creative expression.”
