Am I crazy for considering this?

We recently moved. My eldest child has been bullied mercilessly at school and was the saddest I've ever seen him.

I'm homeschooling him at the moment and he came home a few days ago with two dogs. Went looking for the owner and turns out he's moved to a nursing home for end of life care, and his kids are selling his house. They don't want the dogs and are going to put the dogs in a shelter as they live in apartments and don't have the room. They asked me if I wanted to take them in (right in front of my kids!!)

The dogs are lovely. My kids are obsessed. We live on a lot of land and have the space for them – but I have never owned a dog before and feel like I'm crazy for considering it. My friend told me to get a puppy and learn from the start but my boys (especially my oldest) has bonded with these dogs and just really wants to keep them.

So I guess my question is am I being a crazy person to consider I could do this and provide them with a good home? I work from home and I'm here all the time but have zero dog experience.
