Anwaar-ul Haq Kakar Named Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan
In a recent development, Anwaar-ul Haq Kakar, a senator from Balochistan, has been appointed as the caretaker prime minister of Pakistan. This decision comes just days after the assembly was dissolved. President Arif Alvi approved Kakar’s appointment, solidifying his role as the interim prime minister.
Kakar, born in 1971 in Muslim Bagh, Balochistan, received his primary education from St. Francis School in Quetta. He later enrolled in Cadet College Kohat and holds a Master’s degree in political science and sociology from the University of Balochistan (The News).
According to BBC Urdu, Kakar is the second person from Balochistan to hold the position of Pakistan’s interim prime minister. In 2018, Kakar was elected as an independent senator from Balochistan. After assuming office, he co-founded a new political party called Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). Kakar is well-known for his close relationship with the military establishment and served as a spokesperson for the Balochistan government (The Express Tribune).
Kakar has emphasized his willingness to collaborate with nationalist parties and avoid being rigid in his approach. In 2018, he stated, “We have no stubbornness or rigidity with nationalist parties. The ball is in their court to decide what they want” (The Express Tribune).
During his term in the Senate, Kakar held multiple roles and responsibilities. He served as the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. Additionally, he was a member of the Business Advisory Committee, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology. Furthermore, he acted as the parliamentary leader for the BAP within the Senate (Dawn).
The appointment of Anwaar-ul Haq Kakar as caretaker prime minister has brought a sense of stability and continuity to the nation. With his extensive experience and dedication to public service, Kakar is poised to lead Pakistan during this interim period.
