Former BBC anchor Huw Edwards has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children.
The images were allegedly shared via the texting app WhatsApp. According to the report, via CNN, he’s facing allegations of having 6 “category A” images, 12 “category B” images, and 19 “category C” images. Category A is the most serious under the UK law.
“The [offenses,] which are alleged to have taken place between December 2020 and April 2022, relate to images shared on a WhatsApp chat,” a statement said. “Edwards was arrested on November 8 2023. He was charged on Wednesday June 26 following authorization from the Crown Prosecution Service.”
He could face up to 10 years in prison. He reportedly earned between £475,000 ($610,000) and £479,999 ($616,000) at the network last year.
Edwards was involved in some significant moments at the BBC, including announcing the death of Queen Elizabeth in September of 2022.
