Former Kansas City Southern Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Ottensmeyer, who oversaw the company’s $31 billion merger with Canadian Pacific, has died, the company said Monday.

Ottensmeyer served as CEO and president of Kansas City Southern from 2015 to April 14, 2023, when the combined company, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. (CPKC) (CP) was created.

He worked as executive vice president of sales and marketing at Kansas City Southern from 2008 to 2015 and as its chief financial officer from 2006 to 2008. 

“Pat’s vision and leadership played a monumental role in the great history of Kansas City Southern as he helped reshape the railway industry,” CPKC CEO Keith Creel said in a statement.
