Cheese Sold at Aldi Recalled Due to ‘Foreign Material’

If you use shredded cheese for omelettes, tacos, and more, you may want to check your stash. According to a notice from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Aldi is voluntarily recalling some of its shredded cheese products due to a “potential foreign material.”

More specifically, the notice states that the recalled cheese is Happy Farms by ALDI Colby Jack, which is a blend of Colby and Monterey Jack finely shredded cheeses sold in 12-ounce flexible plastic pouches. Approximately 4,800 individual cheese pouches are impacted by this recall, because they may contain stainless steel fragments. The now-recalled cheese can be identified via the UPC 4061463330840, which appears on the exterior of the packaging, as well as “Best By” dates of July 13, 2025 and July 14, 2025. 

Per the FDA, the cheese in question was sold exclusively by Aldi and distributed to Aldi stores in four states—Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The FDA also notes that this recall was actually initiated last month, but was classified as a Class II recall on March 19, and remains ongoing. The FDA defines a Class II recall as “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

Given the nature of this recall, consumers should check their refrigerators for any Happy Farms by ALDI Colby Jack. Those in possession of the now-recalled cheese should dispose of it immediately, or return it to the nearest Aldi location for a full refund.
