Derry 0-15 Armagh 3-17: Orchard men inflict third loss in-a-row on Oak Leafers

Armagh put three goals past 14-man Derry to pull off an impressive second win in the All-Ireland series at Celtic Park as the Orchard men ran out 3-17 to 0-15 victors.

It was expected that Derry, back on home soil for the first time since Donegal scored three goals against them in the Ulster Championship, would mount a stirring response after back-to-back defeats by Donegal and Galway.

However Armagh played with energy and purpose and countered with a real attacking threat that Derry had no answer to.

The fault lines in the Oak Leaf defence were badly exposed again as Ross McQuillan and Conor Turbitt plundered first-half goals as Armagh led 2-8 to 0-6 at the break.

Rian O’Neill added a third midway through the second half before sub Ciaran McFaul was sent off for Derry for a black card offence, having already been booked.

Armagh will take on Galway in two weeks time to decide who tops the group and advances to the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals.

Meanwhile Derry and Westmeath – both pointless after two games – will slug it out to see who claims third place in the group to remain in the All-Ireland series.
