According to reporting by Deadline, 20th Century has joined the film, which does not yet have a script. Leonardo and Martin are also expected to produce.

If you were unaware, Leonardo has been trying to get an adaptation of the novel off the ground since 2010 when he optioned the property. Back in 2022, a television series was in development at Hulu.

In August of that year, Keanu Reeves was tapped to star. However, he exited the project just two months later. A reason for his departure was not revealed.

Here’s a synopsis of the story: “The story follows Dr. HH Holmes, a cunning serial killer believed to have murdered anywhere from 27 to 200 people at a time when the city of Chicago was enthralled with hosting the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. The book plays off the contrasts between the hopeful expectations and wonders presented at the exposition and the dark deeds of Holmes, who maneuvered in its shadows.”
