Harris-Walz Campaign Releases 2024 Designers for Democracy Collection

Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz have tapped 16 Hollywood-loved designers for their latest merch drop.

Following the viral Chappel Roan-inspired camo cap, the Harris-Walz campaign released the Designers for Democracy collection featuring apparel and accessories by Sergio Hudson, Thom Browne, Joseph Altuzarra and other labels worn by Harris, former First Ladies Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton and countless stars.

Reproductive rights, climate change and voting awareness are among the themes of the 2024 campaign collection ($35 to $85) of tees, tanks, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, sweaters, tote bags and more. Pieces include a floral terry cloth hoodie by Ulla Johnson emblazoned with “Our Bodies” and “Our Vote” along the sleeves, a Victor Glemaud tank top with the phrase “we are not going back / kamala” across the chest, a gray “Kamala.” sweater by Willy Chavarria and a black T-shirt by poet and artist Cleo Wade featuring a photo of the Democratic presidential candidate as a young girl with the words, “the first but not the last.”

Other items include a retro “America Is an Idea” tee and two pairs of ribbed socks by Brother Vellies designer and 15 Percent Pledge founder Aurora James (her pieces are now sold out), graphic totes by Tory Burch and Brett Heyman and an American flag-inspired “Let’s win this” reversible scarf by Thom Browne. Gabriella Hearst created an ombré pink and purple baseball cap and sweatshirt with the words “democracy, women’s rights and climate,” while Chloe Kristyn designer Bettina Benson’s white tee features “we choose freedom” across illustrated flowers. Jonathan Cohen, Prabal Gurung and Vera Wang also contributed designs to the collection.

Per the website, garments are American-made and union-printed. Items are available for presale and orders ship in early October.

Kamala HQ senior campaign advisor Meaghan Burdick told Vogue, “Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz are fighting for a future that strengthens our democracy, protects reproductive freedom and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by but to get ahead. The Designers for Democracy are a group of beloved American designers who believe in that vision and are working to get Harris and Walz to the White House.”

Of her T-shirt design, James explained on Instagram, “America is a beautiful, strange and bountiful place. America is also an idea. And exactly whose idea she is will be voted on up and down the ballot all across the country this November. For too long people that look like me were made to feel that we didn’t belong here. But America belongs to all of us, equally. And we belong to her, too. She is our home; she is our heart; she is our idea.”

Sergio Hudson became a household name after former First Lady Michelle Obama wore a head-to-toe plum look by the Los Angeles-based designer to President Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration. Harris also wore a custom sequin cocktail dress with a floor-length tuxedo overcoat by the designer later that evening for her first appearance as Vice President; most recently she donned a bright blue suit set by the designer at the 2024 Essence Festival of Culture. The former First Lady wore a checkered tailored dress by Thom Browne to President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration. And Hillary Clinton sported a red gown by Altuzarra at the 2022 Met Gala.

The Designers for Democracy products act as donations to the Harris Victory Fund and are available to buy online at Kamalaharris.com.
