IKEA Just Announced Its First-Ever Color of the Year

Breaking news: IKEA has entered the color of the year predictions game. While IKEA isn’t a paint brand, the retailer has claimed quite the stake in interior design over the years, and the Swedish-born company is no stranger to bold pops of color. That’s why it actually makes perfect sense that IKEA threw its hat in the ring and selected Electric Blue, a bright, striking shade, as its 2025 Color of the Year.

The color of the year prediction came along with IKEA’s 2025 Style Guide, in which Abbey Stark, the company’s home furnishing direction leader, encourages consumers to “go big on whimsy” and “get bold with your color stories.” In her editor’s letter, Stark writes that home isn’t just a place to rest and relax, but also a place to encourage joy and creativity. “Home is where you can hold onto and nourish that childlike spirit of play in your everyday life, no matter how old you are,” she writes. “And this playfulness can be expressed in the home decor and design trends you choose, too.”
