Jennifer Lopez needs a friend right now, and it sure sounds like she’s found one… in her husband’s ex-wife!
As you no doubt know by this point, J.Lo and Ben Affleck are going through it. To say they are having marital discord is maybe the understatement of the century. They are spending lots of time apart (uh, like, thousands of miles apart), and rumors have been swirling for weeks about an impending divorce. Through it all, the Waiting For Tonight singer has needed someone in her corner. And she’s got that in Jennifer Garner! Wait, really?!

According to a source who spoke exclusively to Us Weekly on Tuesday night, the 52-year-old Alias alum has “been really friendly” with Lopez as the recording artist continues to navigate relationship trouble with Affleck. Calling Garner an “unexpected ally” to the 54-year-old pop singer, and using the word “surprising” to define the unlikely bond of the two women, the insider explained:
“She’s been helpful to J.Lo, and they’ve been relating to each other. Jennifer has been a surprising person for J.Lo to talk to.”
Wowza!
The source went on to say that Garner — who was infamously married to Affleck from 2005 to 2018 and with whom she shares children Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12 — has also “been supportive” of Ben during his difficult time. In that vein, the West Virginia native is said to be “prioritizing his well-being and their coparenting relationship.”
That’s all great! We all need somebody to talk to, right?! And if Garner can offer a helping hand to Lopez and Affleck through this mess, well, that speaks a lot to her character. We’re also a little confused, though, if we’re being honest. It was only just days ago that we reported how Garner was DONE playing marriage counselor for Ben and Jen amid their relationship problems. But now, uh, it turns out she’s a sounding board for Lopez?! Seems a little contradictory, ya know? These sources need to get on the same page! LOLz!
Jokes aside, between co-parenting their kids and trying to keep things smooth for Ben to work things out, it does seem like Garner has stepped up big and proven herself reliable through this storm. That part is certainly admirable! We just hope the Good Will Hunting star and the Shotgun Wedding lead can use the buffer created by that to come to a decision on what they’re going to do with their troubled marriage moving forward.
