Jon Bon Jovi Remembers Mother Carol Bongiovi After She Died

Jon Bon Jovi has paid tribute to his late mother, Carol Bongiovi, who died on Tuesday at the age of 83.

On Wednesday, Bon Jovi shared a clip on Instagram from his music video for “Story of Love,” featuring the musician playing guitar accompanied by family photos and home videos. “Momma. We carry you with us. Always,” he captioned the post.

“Story of Love,” featured on Bon Jovi’s eponymous band’s album 2020, was written about the musician’s love for his family. “I sat down to write a song for my children. I realized I was writing it about my entire family, my children, my wife and my parents,” he said in a press statement at the time.

The lyrics include, “Fathers love daughters like mothers love sons / They’ve been writing our story before there was one / From the day you arrive, ’til you walk, ’til you run / There is nothin’ but pride, there is nothin’ but love.”

Bongiovi died Tuesday at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. She was 83. In a statement shared with various outlets, Bon Jovi wrote, “Our mother was a force to be reckoned with, her spirit and can-do attitude shaped this family.”

In the recent Hulu docuseries Thank You, Goodnight – The Bon Jovi Story, Bon Jovi detailed how his mother helped to get him into music.

“My mom was a florist, and she had a little gift shop at one point and somehow she brought an acoustic guitar home and the Roy Clark learn-at-home guitar book and record,” he recalled. “I was 7, 8 years old so I had no desire. I remember throwing it down the basement stairs and breaking a tuning pick. But as you hit 12 and 13 years old and you’re listening to the AM radio and the pop songs, you start liking them, and you start singing along a little bit — that’s when I found music in my own way.”
