This is so, so heartbreaking to hear.
Jonathan Joss, a beloved actor who starred in shows like King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, has sadly been killed… allegedly due to homophobia!
Joss is best known for his iconic roles as Indigenous characters, having been a descendant of the Comanche and White Mountain Apache peoples IRL. He notably voiced John Redcorn in seasons 2-13 of King of the Hill. It’s unclear if he had returned to the role for the upcoming revival series. Joss also notable appeared as Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation. His other TV credits include Walker, Texas Ranger, ER, Charmed, and Friday Night Lights. He also acted in multiple iconic films, including the Oscar-winning western True Grit back in 2010.
He was just 59 years old. So sad. But get ready to go from just being sad to being very, very angry.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting near Dorsey Drive around 7 p.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, they found a man lying in the street with fatal gunshot wounds, a victim they later identified as Joss. Witnesses told TMZ the actor had been in a heated argument with his neighbor Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez when they heard gunshots ring out. Alvarez fled the scene in a car, but was later caught by law enforcement just a block away. He was booked with murder charges following the incident.

While the official accounts have not explained the dispute between the neighbors, Joss’ husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales has now released a statement — and it is SHOCKING!
According to Tristan, the feud between the neighbors was fueled by Alvarez’s hatred! He shared to Facebook:
“My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.”
Whoa! We saw the headlines back in January when Jonathan tragically lost his childhood home in a fire. He broke down crying in a local news station’s interview talking about the house his father had built. At the time, he also told KSAT he lost his dog, too — it was devastating:
“This is a house I grew up in. I’m more concerned about my dog that died, but you know what? The good Lord will protect us.”
Just absolutely gut-wrenching.
And now Tristan is suggesting that fire was caused by neighbors?? Is that what he’s saying?? He goes on to say it was all homophobia:
“Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic. When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.”
“Place in clear view”? As in… Placed by a neighbor to taunt them? That’s sick.
It was when they were screaming, Tristan claims, that they were attacked. Not a fight — he says it was an unprovoked attack:
“While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired. Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.”
He then claimed powerfully:
“He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.”
Dear lord. That’s heartbreaking.
Tristan went on to mourn their short-lived romance:
“Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future… I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.”

If this really was a homophobic attack, we are just speechless. We are so deeply wounded in our souls thinking that we live in a time where this is still happening…
Our thoughts are with Jonathan’s family and loved ones. He was a true talent that will be greatly missed.
