Krispy Kreme Celebrating Its 87th Birthday With 87-Cent Dozens

Krispy Kreme Celebrating Its 87th Birthday With 87-Cent Dozens

Way back in 1937, Vernon Rudolph pushed a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans chef and set up shop in Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he sold the sweet pastry to local grocery stores. By the 1940s, he already owned a small chain of stores, which sold the same classic treats we know today — like jelly and cream-filled doughnuts, cinnamon twists, coconut, sugared, and naturally, Original Glazed. By the 1960s, the store’s famous automated baking began. Today, there are more than 700 stores sprinkled all over the world. And this Friday, July 12, the chain will celebrate its 87th birthday by giving everyone the chance to taste its doughnuts for less.

In honor of the big day, Krispy Kreme is offering its Original Glaze dozens for just 87 cents with the purchase of any dozen at regular price.

“Treating our fans on our birthday is a long-time tradition,” Dave Skena, the global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme, shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “A dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 87 cents when you buy any dozen is a sweet way for us to thank our fans who have kept us going all these years.”

The only fine print with this deal is that guests are limited to four dozen total when purchased in-shop and via drive-thru and one dozen when purchased online for pickup or delivery at participating shops across the US. Of course, everything is while supplies last, and the deal will only be valid on Friday. (Use the code “BDAY” to redeem the deal when purchasing online.) Those who need or want more details on this celebration can find it all at krispykreme.com/offers/birthday.

But don’t worry if you miss out this Friday. Krispy Kreme has been on a major roll with its limited-edition offerings and discounts. In June, it finally brought its Reese’s Peanut Butter Doughnut to the U.S. for the first time and even offered customers a free doughnut to honor National Doughnut Day. It also rolled out all-new mini doughnuts for a more poppable treat. So, don’t stress. There’s bound to be another reason to celebrate with Krispy Kreme soon.
