Lisa Vanderpump Says ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Reboot Will Be Totally Different

Lisa Vanderpump shared new details about the upcoming Vanderpump Rules reboot after Bravo announced that the reality series will feature an entirely new cast for season 12.

The reality star told E! News that the cast shake-up will bring “a different energy” to the long-running series, which premiered in 2013 with original cast members Vanderpump, Kristen Doute, Katie Maloney, Tom Sandoval, Stassi Schroeder, Scheana Shay and Jax Taylor. The outgoing cast includes Maloney, Sandoval and Shay, along with Lala Kent, Ariana Madix, Tom Schwartz and James Kennedy. (Doute and Taylor are now starring on spinoff series The Valley, while Schroeder is set to launch her own Hulu series with Vanderpump.)

“[We’re] not gonna try and compete with the old Vanderpump Rules,” Vanderpump said at the opening of her new restaurant Pinky’s by Vanderpump at Flamingo Las Vegas. “It’s just gonna be totally different there. Still, we’ll go back to the premise of the complications of running a restaurant and the staff in it. And that always has a story to tell.”

Vanderpump shared that filming with the former cast — which in season 11 included Maloney, Sandoval, Madix, Shay, Schwartz, Kennedy and Kent, following Rachel Leviss’ “Scandoval”-related exit — was “a wonderful experience,” but “it was time to do something different” with the reality seres, which has become one of Bravo’s highest-rated shows.

“Stories were kind of closing up a little bit. I think people, they weren’t that shocked that we decided to do this now,” the SUR owner said of the fallout from seasons 10 and 11, adding that she has “grown to love them all.”

“I’ll miss the whole group,” Vanderpump, who is an executive producer, concluded.

Bravo announced in November that Vanderpump Rules was being renewed with an all-new cast. The news came months after the show was rocked by Scandoval, the cheating scandal between Sandoval, Madix, and Leviss that brought a big ratings boost and strong fan reactions.

“Under Lisa Vanderpump’s watchful eye, the West Hollywood mainstay SUR — and now TomTom — welcomes the next batch of servers, hosts and bartenders rife with plenty of drama, situationships and frenemies,” the network said in an announcement at the time.

As previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Shay, Schwartz, Kent and Shay’s husband Brock Davies will appear on the next season of Vanderpump Rules spinoff The Valley. A source told THR at the time that the door is open for the entire cast to appear on The Valley, Vanderpump Rules, or elsewhere in the larger Bravoverse.

Alex Baskin, executive producer of Vanderpump Rules via 32 Flavors, said at the time that it is a “thrill” to “build on the legacy of this series by doing it all over again.”

“With profound appreciation for the original group and their iconic run, we can’t wait for the audience to see a dynamic new group of co-workers and friends make their way through life together,” Baskin added.

The new season of Vanderpump Rules will begin production in 2025. The new cast members and premiere date have not yet been announced.
