NFL Network Analyst’s Remarkable Super Bowl Pick Streak Is Somehow Still Alive

NFL Network Analyst’s Remarkable Super Bowl Pick Streak Is Somehow Still Alive

NFL Network analyst Peter Schrager must keep a crystal ball under his desk.

For each of the past four seasons, Schrager has correctly picked the winner of the Super Bowl. He took the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in ’20, the Los Angeles Rams in ’21 and the Chiefs again last year. All of those predictions turned out to be correct.

With an impressive track record like that, Schrager’s pick this season drew plenty of attention when he made it on the day the season began. His choice? The Chiefs, again.

After Kansas City’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC championship game on Sunday, Schrager’s pick is still alive. It’s entirely possible that he winds up having correctly predicted the Lombardi Trophy winner every year for half a decade.

Schrager’s pick this season is especially impressive because he also chose the San Francisco 49ers to emerge out of the NFC to face K.C. in Las Vegas.

Even if choosing last year’s champion to repeat seems like a safe choice, picking the Super Bowl is a really difficult task. Correctly foreseeing four and perhaps even five champions in a row is incredible. Of the 10 experts who made picks for Sports Illustrated before the season, only three picked the Chiefs to win. If we’re going to give Schrager props for correctly predicting a Chiefs-Niners final, let’s also give a shout out to managing editor John Pluym, who did the same.
