Nicolas Cage‘s son has been arrested for assault, according to a shocking new report — and the victim was his own mother!
According to The US Sun, Weston Cage Coppola was charged in Los Angeles on Wednesday for an attack that happened weeks ago. A spokesperson for the LAPD told the outlet:
“I can confirm that Weston Cage Coppola was arrested today for assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested by LAPD’s 77th Division.”
Assault with a deadly weapon. God. What happened?! Back in early May, TMZ was the first to report a fight between Weston and his mother Christina Fulton. The week before, they said, the two got into a verbal altercation at her home that escalated into a physical conflict. The outlet reported at the time that “a battery report” had been taken by cops. Photos hit the internet showing the 56-year-old mom with bruises on her face and a black eye.

Christina herself released a statement to People after the news broke, clarifying:
“Weston and I had no argument prior to the incident. On Sunday, April 28, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis.”
Ah. This wasn’t just a family squabble. This was a mental health crisis Weston was going through. Oh no.
When we heard the grown man had attacked his own mother, we were shocked. Now we understand a bit more. The caring mom explained:
“Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience.”
Christina said she “acted swiftly to ensure” her son’s safety:
“I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs.”
His mother wasn’t the only one looking out for Weston amid his mental health problems. He was released on $150,000 bail Wednesday morning, shortly after the arrest. Per The US Sun, Nic is believe to have paid his son’s bond. A painful moment in what should be a celebratory week for Cage, who has an anticipated horror film out this week called Longlegs.
A source who knows the family told the outlet they knew assault charges were inevitable after what happened. But that didn’t take out the sting:
“The family knew this was going to happen but needless to say, it is a very big shock.”
Such a sad situation all around.
If the idea of Nic Cage’s son getting arrested sounded familiar to you, that may be because you remember back in 2011 when he faced domestic violence charges after allegedly manhandling his pregnant newlywed wife, 22-year-old singer Nikki Williams. He was 20 at the time. Per ABC News, Weston maintained he was just trying to restrain her from hurting him or herself — after she had cut him open with a broken bottle and threatened to jump off the balcony of their New Orleans apartment.
The two were divorced right after that.
In 2017 Weston was arrested again, this time for DUI after fleeing the scene of a car accident. He’d hit multiple parked cars and street signs before crashing into a tree. He was 26 that time.
We’re glad to hear the now-33-year-old is getting support from his parents amid these latest mental health issues. But we wonder if the criminal justice system will be as understanding as they appear to be.
