NYC Apartments Under a Million: Jackson Heights

NYC Apartments Under a Million: Jackson Heights

This Jackson Heights co-op, which has moldings and oak floors with mahogany inlay, as shown in this listing photo, is worth the 7 train life.

For under a million dollars, one can find all sorts of housing configurations: park- and subway-adjacent studios, one-bedrooms hidden in carriage houses or former shoe factories, and even the occasional true two-bedroom. We’re combing the market for particularly spacious, nicely renovated, or otherwise worth-a-look apartments at various six-digit price points.

There’s just really good stuff in Jackson Heights, in addition to the food. We scoped out one standout listing there this week — a two-bedroom with a sun room! — and unearthed a solid one-bed in Windsor Terrace that has a bonus office space.

37-28 80th St., Apt. 32

This sprawling two-bedroom in Jackson Heights has charming prewar details including the wood-burning fireplace with its original mantel, as shown in this listing photo.

This Jackson Heights two-bedroom has the kind of charm and layout that justify the 7-train life. There’s also a wood-burning fireplace with the original mantel in the living room, plus six closets, a pantry, and a very large foyer. French doors separate the decently renovated kitchen from a full-fledged dining room (go ahead and become the home among your friends for dinner and holiday parties), and in addition to fairly generous bedrooms, there’s a cute solarium with dual exposures overlooking the co-op’s private landscaped gardens. The monthlies are a reasonable $1,267, although there’s a $331.33 assessment from June to November 2025. Along with the live-in super, the building comes with bike storage and access to the aforementioned garden.

140 East Second St., Apt. 6F

The living area flows nicely into the renovated kitchen in this Windsor Terrace one-bedroom, as shown in this listing photo, although it’s totally understandable if you’ve got thoughts on the tile.

The layout of this one-bedroom, at 684 square feet, works pretty well: There’s a king-size bedroom and a windowed den looking out onto a tree-lined backyard. The living area flows nicely into the renovated kitchen — the tile might be a bit much, but that’s up to you — which also has a breakfast bar and a Bosch oven with Thermador gas cooktop and a hooded vent. The monthlies, a svelte $694, cover an impressive slate of amenities that include a live-in super and porter, but also a rehearsal and recording studio, a playroom, storage space and a bike room, and a shared backyard.

77 Perry St., Apt. 4C

The Perry Street one-bedroom is prewar to a T with its exposed brick and hardwood floors, as seen in this listing photo.

West Village Girl catnip. It’s prewar to a T, with exposed brick and hardwood floors throughout. The oversize bedroom windows overlook the gardens of the townhomes on West 11th, which means potential billionaire spotting, while the living room looks out onto leafy Perry Street. The kitchen area is better suited for reheating leftovers from Via Carota than making pasta from scratch, but it’s probably safe to assume you’re a “creator” who isn’t sweating about your dining-out budget. Monthlies are $1,148 and get you an elevator and virtual doorman, plus the West Village cred.

357 West End Ave., Apt. 2

This two-bedroom in an Upper West Side co-op has dual exposures in the living area that let in plenty of natural light and gorgeous parquet floors, as seen in this listing photo.

This Upper West Side parlor-floor unit is all about the natural light, with north- and east-facing windows in the living area and a windowed kitchen that looks out on a tree-lined West 77th Street. There are lovely parquet floors throughout, though the real sell here is being a block from Riverside Park, less than 15 minutes from Central Park, and a quick jaunt to the 1 train. The building is self-managed and has zero amenities, so it is almost certainly banking on its location given the $2,244 in monthlies that currently include an assessment.
