Over 100 fully stocked back-to-school bags were donated to primary school students across Antigua by the Rotaract Club of Antigua on Friday, August 25th.
The Club’s Community Service Committee, led by Director Romancier Edwards, developed a program that aimed to promote success among primary school students in Antigua.
In celebration of Basic Education and Literacy Month, the Rotaract Club of Antigua launched a three-phase project called “Supplying Success”.
The project aimed to equip primary school students across Antigua with school supplies and interactive reading opportunities.
The Community Service project was a resounding success, with reading materials from local authors donated to the top Social Studies Common Entrance student, 100 fully packed backpacks donated across school zones, and an engaging reading comprehension session held to commemorate World Literacy Day.
Phase 2 of the “Supplying Success” initiative focused on providing the ultimate back-to-school backpack, which is essential for engaging with classroom materials and applying what is learned outside the classroom.
The Club’s provision of 100 school bags to students across school zones ensures a greater impact on each child’s motivation and confidence.
The backpacks were fully stocked with exercise books, crayons, pens, pencils, rulers, binders, erasers, sharpeners, glues, and pencil cases, with bonus giveaways of lunch bags.
The Club partnered with the Ministry of Education and various schools to compile a list of the most vulnerable students.
The Distribution Day took place on August 25th and September 3rd at three central locations: the Rotary House, JT Ambrose Primary School, and Greenbay Primary School.
Club members met with students, guardians, and parents from zones 1, 2, and 3 with excitement and gratitude.
The Club expressed sincere thanks to all the sponsors who contributed to this initiative.
The impact of “Supplying Success” has created a model for literacy on the island of Antigua, and the Club is committed to promoting Basic Education and Literacy among the youth by developing more innovative projects in the future.
