Savannah Guthrie is looking back on an awkward interview moment with Khloé Kardashian.
While appearing on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Radio Andy on Thursday, Guthrie shared that when Kardashian was on the Today show in 2012, producers were adamant Guthrie ask her about the rumors that Robert Kardashian was not her biological father.
“There had been these stories circulating in the press that her father, Robert Kardashian, wasn’t really her father,” Guthrie told Cohen to which he mentioned that the rumors were that O.J. Simpson was Kardashian’s father.
“Who knows? I can’t even remember the details,” Guthrie continued. “But I know the producers at the time — none of whom are here today — really wanted me to ask, and I was very embarrassed to ask such a question.”
Given her hesitation, Guthrie said she “did what any naive, green anchor would do” and waited to ask the question until the last seconds of her sit-down.
“At the Today show, we have a thing called the ‘hard out,’ and the ‘hard out’ means you have to be done. The show is going to black at such and such time,” she explained, also noting that they usually have 10 seconds until it cuts to commercial.
“I said, ‘Khloé, just real quickly, in the seconds we have, there have been some stories that Robert Kardashian is not your father. Is he?’” she recalled. “And God bless her — if I saw her today, I’d hug her for this — I don’t know if she’s such a pro that she saw them counting down, like three, two … and she said, ‘Yep, I know. Nothing to it.’ And I was like, ‘And we’ll be right back.’ She saved my butt.”
Kardashian has addressed the gossip on different occasions even tweeting at the time, “People are assholes but I don’t care lol I focus on the good.” She also said “I’m happy and they hatin’.”
Meanwhile, the late Simpson who died in 2024, had also addressed the rumors during an interview on the Full Send podcast in December 2022. “The rumor ain’t true. It’s not even anywhere close to being true,” he stated. Though he admitted he found Kardashian’s mom Kris Jenner attractive and was a “cute girl,” he “was dating supermodels.”
