Tennis: Sinner wins Canadian Open and becomes world no. 6 – English
(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 14 – Jannik Sinner beat Australian Alex De
Minaur 6-4 6-1 on Sunday to win the men’s singles final of the
2023 Canadian Open in Toronto.
For the Italian, it was the first victory of his career in an
ATP Masters 1000 tournament and the second by an Italian after
Fabio Fognini beat Serbia’s Dušan Lajović in Monte Carlo in
2019.
The win takes the 21-year-old to sixth place in the world
ranking.
“It’s a great result that I share with all the people who are
close to me,” said Sinner before congratulating his opponent.
“It’s nice to be on the court with you. I hope to see you in the
world’s top ten soon.” (ANSA).
