Denim’s one of those materials that knows no bounds. It’s just as trendy to wear denim in the summer as it is spring or winter, largely because you can play with the cut, silhouette, and even length. This season, summer denim trends are bountiful, offering up fun ways to hyper-customize your look or even try bold, unexpected shapes. The point is to have fun with your fits! Here are the denim trends stylists say are a must-try this season.
Long-Line Denim Shorts

Are they shorts or are they pants? Well, they’re kind of inbetween—and they’re everywhere this season. “ I’m seeing them labeled as bermuda shorts or jorts (some lengths are actually culottes), but the bottom line is the length,” says Sharonda Irving, personal stylist and image consultant. “Women are loving them because of where they hit the leg. No more worrying about bunching or back of thigh anxiety.” They also don’t “ride up” like some shorts, which can make for some uncomfy thigh chaffing.

Teaming up with long-line shorts is long-line skirts. “After years of skinny jeans and cropped cuts, long-line denim skirts are having a comeback,” says Terese Fernández, head of design at Sumissura. “We have seen it in street style from Madrid and Paris, and we love them for their balance between ease and sophistication.”
Barrel Legs

Barrel jeans have been around for over a year, but personal stylist Susan Padron says it’s ubiquitous in 2025. It’s a baggy style of jeans that bows slightly outward in the center. “It’s a unique silhouette with how it’s fitted at the waist and tapers at the ankle. Even if you’re just pairing a barrel leg jean with a cropped T-shirt, the vibe is effortless and cool.”
Head to Toe Denim
This updated take on the “Canadian Tuxedo” is also everywhere this season, but don’t dismiss it as being overly retro. We’re seeing it show up as denim on denim and/or full dresses, as well as a long denim vest over jeans. “Schiaparelli, Simone Rocha, and Ganni all showcased their own take on this trend and showed its versatility,” says Heather Jude, founder, designer, and personal stylist at Jude Canada. “A fail safe for this trend is to layer the same denim.”
Slouchy, Low-Slung Jeans
Wide legged jeans continue to be a go to style for cool girls of all ages. “Not just wide, but slouchy and low slung maximizes the vibe,” Irving tells us. “Despite their street style edge, they are also being seen on red carpets and runways.” Try a nice wide cuff at the hem paired with a classic white tee and barely-there strappy shoe. Or drape a blazer over your shoulders, tuck a clutch with a pop of color under your arm for an elevated touch.
Straight Leg Jeans

Along with baggy, straight leg jeans are back and big for the season! “The overall news about denim is that with such a large variety on the market, style experts are looking for options that flatter and go with everything,” Irving explains. “The straight leg jean is back and we are here for it! They make legs look long and can be styled in so many ways.”
Denim Tops

Padron says that denim tops are huge right now. “We’re not just limited to a chambray button down anymore, but we’re seeing unique denim tops, some that have more architectural style to them, and even corsets,” she says. Her favorite way to style a denim top is by pairing it with a looser pant, like a barrel leg khaki chino.

Customization is a broader trend we’re seeing right now, and denim is included. Jude says she’s seeing denim with embellishments and fun features. “Stella McCartney sported a pair of jewel, luster-like jeans on their runway that felt iridescent and almost pearlized, and this trend was also apparent in Chanel’s show that had jeans with rhinestones creeping up the hem line,” she says.
Clean, Minimalist Jeans
The ’90s are still going strong, and that includes clean, classic denim—no rips, no frays, just a straight-leg or slightly relaxed cut. “This trend is all about subtlety and proportion,” says Fernández. “Go for a high-rise fit and keep the wash simple (mid or dark blue). Style with a crisp white shirt and understated accessories for that effortless ‘model off duty’ vibe.”
Bootcut Silhouettes

Along with barrel and straight leg, bootcut jeans are enjoying a moment in the spotlight this season. “Having this relaxed version of the classic fit and flare look is a modern take, along with redefined stitching,” Jude notes. “We saw this trending on runways like Louis Vuitton and Fendi. It’s like a hybrid silhouette between a boot cut and a flare with a slouchy hem. It’s a relaxed, redefined, effortless version of these two silhouettes.
