2024 Scottish Open picks, predictions, odds, field: Golf expert fading Tommy Fleetwood at The Renaissance Club

Reigning PGA champion Xander Schauffele will attempt to add to his strong 2024 season when he tees off in the 2024 Scottish Open beginning on Thursday at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. Ranked No. 3 in the world, Schauffele has 11 top-10 and 15 top-25 finishes in 16 events this year, including his first major victory at the PGA Championship in May. He is also a former champion at the Scottish Open, having won at The Renaissance Club in 2022. 

Schauffele is the +750 second choice in the 2024 Scottish Open odds, just behind defending champion Rory McIlroy (+650). Collin Morikawa (+1200), Ludvig Aberg (+1400), Viktor Hovland (+2000) and Tommy Fleetwood (+2000) round out the top six choices in the 2024 Scottish Open field. One surprise: Nejad is completely fading Tommy Fleetwood, even though he is ranked No. 11 in the world. The 33-year-old Fleetwood enters the week No. 26 in the FedEx Cup standings. He has struggled this season with his approach play, ranking 114th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.072).

And Nejad does not like that Fleetwood has never been able to seal the deal on the PGA Tour. Fleetwood, who played his first PGA Tour event in 2013, is 0-for-140. “He’s a popular pick for many, but I simply don’t think he can close in a field like this so I’ll be avoiding him,” Nejad told SportsLine. 

Another curveball: Nejad is high on Swedish sensation Ludvig Aberg. Ranked No. 4 in the world, Aberg enters the Scottish Open on a roll. In his last eight tournaments, he has six top-15 finishes and four top-10s. Two starts ago, he held the 36-hole lead in the U.S. Open before finishing 12th. He is listed at +1400 in the 2024 Scottish Open odds, behind only McIlroy (+650), Schauffele (+750) and Morikawa (+1200).

Aberg is one of the best drivers of the ball on the PGA Tour.
