5 Smart and Easy Ways to Organize Tech Cords

Do messy tangles of tech cords and cables keep you up at night? If the dreaded junk drawer keeps getting bogged down with more electronic cords and chargers that are never where you need them, use some of these handy and inexpensive tips to streamline everything in a snap.

Use Boxes With Compartments

Wind the cords up and use a box with compartments (like a tackle box, jewelry box, or tea organizer) to stash them. Then, add some labels to help you remember what each cord goes to. Easy to find, easy to identify, and unlikely to get tangled up.

Group Like Cords Together

You can easily (and inexpensively!) find hook and loop strips to band your like-cords together. For example, all of your USB-Cs in one bundle, your TV cords in another, etc. It’ll consolidate the amount of room you’re taking up in a drawer, and you can label them for easy grabbing next time you need to charge a device.

Separate Cords Into Pouches

Look on Amazon or go to an organization store like The Container Store to find translucent pouches to separate different types of cords. Some packs of pouches come with different colored zippers, so you can easily ID each kind of cord—but of course, you can always label them, too! Instead of grouping like with like, as above, you can make different pouches for different areas of your home. Maybe there are a couple spots the whole family usually charges their devices; add a pouch with everyone’s most-used cords in a tucked-away area of that room.

Use Binder Clips

Similar to the hook and loop method, use binder clips to sort your cords. A plus to this idea is you probably already have some binder clips hanging around the house!

Get a Cable Management Box

There are tons of options out there for simply covering up cords—and a cord management box is an excellent solution. You can find simple plastic options or higher-end wooden ones that can be mounted on the wall to create little charging stations around your home.
