This pick is known for its inflated trunk. “It produces an abundance of white, red, or pink flowers, depending on the cultivar, and it thrives in hot and dry conditions and produces beautiful flowers,” said Andrew Bunting, VP of horticulture with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. The plant requires full sun and well-drained soil, he adds.
String of Bananas (Senecio radicans)

This trailing succulent has narrow banana-like leaves that add interest to the home while still being relatively low maintenance. It thrives in full sun with minimal watering.
Corkscrew Albuca (Albuca spiralis)

This succulent has upright, curved leaves and produces stems that rise above the foliage with an abundance of yellow flowers. It prefers full sun and a well-drained soil, Bunting says.
Pencil Cactus (Euphorbia tirucalli)

This unique succulent resembles a cluster of “pencils” that have shades of green, orange, and pink. As a succulent, Bunting explains, the plant is drought-tolerant making it ideal for plant parents with a tendency to forget to water—but it does need a very well-drained soil to thrive.

This exotic plant features nearly black flowers that resemble the face of a bat, making it an especially dramatic and interesting addition to the home. “This plant needs warm, humid conditions with indirect light, so consider the location of the plant in your home carefully,” Bunting cautions.
Living Stones (Lithops)

These small succulents resemble stones. The colors can vary from brown to silver to tan and they thrive in dry conditions and require minimal watering, making them a relatively easy plant to care for, Bunting says.
Green Velvet Alocasia (Alocasia micholitziana)
