Shorts are a hot-weather given, but don’t write off skirts so quickly. Not only do they add a little variety to your summer fits, but they’re actually an excellent way to keep cool and are just as versatile as pants or shorts. (Pro tip: wear a pair of slip shorts or biker shorts underneath to prevent chafing.) We asked personal stylists to share their favorite summer skirt trends of the season. They also offered some styling advice for each.

Lace-Trimmed Skirts
If there’s one look that’s come to define the season’s softer side, it’s certainly the lace-trimmed skirt. “Romantic yet grounded, these pieces appeared on the runways of Chanel and Miu Miu, often styled not with heels and silk blouses, but with oversized tees, sporty tanks, and simple ballet flats,” says Ashley Full, personal stylist and co-founder of AMOUR781. She adds that in Paris, fashion editors have been spotted pairing lace maxi skirts with vintage graphic tees and retro sneakers.
Voluminous A-Line Skirts
As the quiet luxury trend fades out, it’s being replaced with more expressive, maximalist looks, including skirts with lots of volume. “They are also a great way to express your personal style and creativity, which is also popular in 2025,” notes Dianne Boyer, a certified personal stylist and founder of Dianne In Style. “Because of the fullness on the bottom, you want to keep your top more streamlined.” Try a fitted top or even a body suit to create flattering proportions.
Mini Skirts
Forget the short-shorts! We’re going mini skirt. “Nostalgia is everywhere in 2025 from jelly shoes to mini skirts,” says Samantha Dawn, a personal stylist and style coach. “Don’t be afraid to go for the mini skirts that have more texture, such as leather. It adds more dimension into your outfits and can easily be paired with an oversized blazer.” And a bonus of mini skirts is that they’ll definitely keep you cool in the hottest weather. Combine it with a tank top or cropped tee, strappy sandals, and your go-to sunglasses.
Boho Maxi Skirts
Bohemian style is enjoying a resurgence—skirts included. Full says a popular iteration of this is a tiered maxi in flowing fabrics, whimsical prints, and exaggerated hemlines. “These appeared in collections from Zimmerman, Chloé, and Etro, though this season the styling has taken a more grounded, urban feel,” she says. “Instead of sandals and straw hats, we’re seeing these skirts paired with boxy leather jackets, cowboy boots, or even structured blazers.”
Bubble Skirts
Anyone who thought the bubble skirt would never see the light of day again is probably surprised to see this summer skirt trend. But with all the Y2K nostalgia happening, it makes perfect sense.
“Zendaya, Kylie Jenner, and Hailey Bieber are big fans of this trend, but what’s truly fueling the trend isn’t the runway or red carpet: it’s the streets,” Full tells us. “In Copenhagen, Milan, and New York, the bubble skirt has become a favorite among fashion editors and street-style stars. A cropped jacket or blazer helps refine the silhouette.”
Embellishment Skirts
Maximalism and unapologetic individuality is a big theme this year, so we’re not to see embellished skirts as a top summer skirt trend in 2025. Think of it as an extension of the charms trend, which is popping up on everything from shoes to handbags. “Add a more casual top (like a white tee) with your skirt for it to feel more casual-elevated. And don’t forget your jewelry to complete the look.
Suede Skirts
Suede is a classic, textured wardrobe staple that aligns neatly with minimalist looks. “The summer suede look is perfect right now,” Boyer says. “Lightweight suede is surprisingly breathable and great for warm weather. Pair it with other breathable fabrics such as linen for a breezy look.”
Denim Skirts
One reason why denim skirts remain so popular is that they never get stuck in one particular style. They come in mini, maxi, A-line, etc., and in many different washes.
“They align perfectly with the 2025 overall fashion trend of personal expression. You can always find a silhouette and wash that matches your individual style,” Boyer says. “Pick the silhouette that you love best and have fun styling it with different tops and accessories. Adding fun belts and jewelry as well as swapping sneakers for boots will give you all kinds of versatility.”
