Martín Rodríguez Joins Netflix’s ‘El Marginal’ Spin-Off ‘En el Barro’

“Griselda” star Martín Rodríguez has joined the cast of Netflix’s “El Marginal” spinoff “En el barro.”

Argentine TV series “El Marginal” ran from 2016-2022 and is still available on Netflix. It tells the story of undercover cop Pastor (Juan Minujin) who infilitrates a prison while investigating a kidnapping, where he runs into a group of inmates led by the Borges brothers (Nicolás Furtado and Claudio Rissi).

The spinoff, titled “En el barro” (“In The Mud”) is being produced by Underground Producciones S.A. and Netflix. It is set in a women’s prison and follows two of “El Marginal’s” most talked-about characters in the original: the unscrupulous Gladys “La Borges” Guerra (played by Ana Garibaldi) and the cynical Sergio Antín (Gerardo Romano).

Rodríguez, who plays Jorge “Rivi” Ayala in “Griselda” opposite Sofia Vergara, has started shooting “En el barro” in Argentina. He plays prison guard Alan, who must choose between prison and his family.

The series is set to drop in early 2025.

“I’m very happy to be working once again in my homeland of Argentina on the new series,” said Rodríguez. “Additionally, to be invited to work with the talented, creative team behind such an iconic show as ‘El Marginal’ is truly an honor.”

“El Marginal’s” Sebastián Ortega produces and directs “En el barro.” He also co-wrote the script with Silvina Frejdkes, Alejandro Quesada and Omar Quiroga.

Rodríguez has previously starred in projects including “Leo’s Room,” for which he won a number of awards, “San Martin,” “Time and the Wind” and “Zanahoria.” He recently starred in Tomas Vergara’s short “Quimera” alongside Gadea Jimenez.
