British Politician Jacob Rees-Mogg Gets Discovery+ Docuseries

Controversial British politician Jacob Rees-Mogg is getting his own reality show, it’s been confirmed.

The Discovery+ U.K. and Ireland series is titled “Meet the Rees Moggs” and will follow the former member of Parliament – who lost his Parliamentary seat last week – over the course of five, 60-minute long episodes.

The series, produced by Optomen, will show Rees-Mogg in the run-up up to the General Election as well as its aftermath. It’s scheduled to drop on Discovery+ later in the year.

“With exclusive access, this fly-on-the-wall documentary series will be a never-before-seen look into his life at home in the 17th century Somerset house where he lives with his wife and six children,” reads the logline.

The Conservative politician has become a meme for his old-fashion dress sense and sensibility. He once admitted that despite having six children (the last of whom is named Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher Rees-Mogg), he had never changed a nappy. “The nanny does it brilliantly,” he said at the time. “I’ve made no pretence to be a modern man at all, ever.”

It has long been suspected Rees-Mogg has been planning a move from politician to media personality, much like his fellow former MPs Matt Hancock, who appeared on reality show “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” and Boris Johnson, who has returned to journalism following his spell as Prime Minister. Rees-Mogg currently has a show on controversial U.K. network GB News, where media regulator Ofcom found he had breached impartiality rules on occasion.

“Animals, children, an election and a film crew. What could possibly go wrong? This everyday story of Somerset folk is fun to film but may be a bit more ‘Fawlty Towers’ than ‘Downton Abbey,’” said Rees-Mogg of his new series.

The Discovery+ series was commissioned by Charlotte Reid for Discovery+ and exec produced for Warner Bros. Discovery by Deirdre Dowling and Matt Reid. Nick Hornby is the executive producer for Optomen, an All3Media company.
