9 Top Swimsuit Trends of the Summer

Fun One Pieces

One-piece swimsuits have enjoyed a rise in popularity in the last several years, with lots of swimwear brands getting creative with silhouettes, cutouts, texture, and prints. 

“Its versatility and comfort are major selling points, making it a go-to choice for many,” says Stella Green, founder and CEO of Sanori Swim. Since our collection launched on June 26, both of [our two new one-piece] designs are out-selling bikini sets almost two to one.” She adds that people are using one pieces as bodysuits worn with casual linen slacks or a pair of jeans.

Lustrous Fabrics

This season, swimwear designed from lustrous fabrics have become extremely popular. “These shimmery materials stun in sunlight but also beautifully enhance the body’s natural curves with their reflective qualities,” Green says.

Tennis Chic

If you score some tennis-inspired swimwear this summer you’ll be right in line with the rest. “Color-blocked designs are a classic and chic look, offering timeless elegance reminiscent of country club sophistication,” says Niveen Carrero, founder of Adicora Swimwear. Along with color blocking, think swim dresses and skirts, clean lines, and racer backs. 

Matching Sarongs

“The coordinated look is a significant trend this year, with matching sarongs made from the same fabric as the swimwear leading the way,” Green notes. “Matching sarongs are ideal for effortlessly transitioning from beach lounging to a bite at your favorite beach club.” 

Versatile Coverups

Similarly, swimsuit coverups are evolving to become more than just a beach accessory; they’re now a fashion statement in their own right. 

“Lightweight, flowy materials are gaining popularity, along with innovative designs that can easily double as casual wear,” says Sienna Gomez, founder of Sienna Swim. People are pairing them with jeans, skirts, and even heels. “This reflects a growing demand for practicality and sustainability in fashion choices, allowing women to transition seamlessly from tanning at the beach to a night out with friends.” 

Crochet Effect

Crochet has been popular across all fashion in recent months, and swimwear is enjoying its own variation on the trend this season, Carerro notes. She says one of the brand’s crocheted bikinis is one of their bestsellers this year. Along with being used in actual suits, crochet is a popular option for coverups and sarongs. 

Gold Hardware Details

Gold hardware details are adding a touch of sophistication and luxury to swimwear this season. “Elements like gold clasps, rings, and dainty chains bring an understated elegance, which become even more striking when paired with matching gold jewelry,” Green tells us. 

Bold Prints

Texture is clearly a 2024 swimwear trend, but people are also leaning into bold prints and playful fabrics. For example, Gomez’s line has both a paisley and safari print—two wildly different options that are being equally embraced by shoppers. 

“These new patterns bring a unique and adventurous flair, allowing our customers to express their personal style and stand out with confidence,” Gomez notes. “They reflect a sense of optimism and nostalgia, adding a fresh twist to swimwear fashion.”

Minimalist Chic

Perhaps as a micro counter trend to all the color, texture, and detailed designs we’re seeing this season, minimalist swimsuits are gaining momentum. Think neutral colors like white, beige, and black in simple silhouettes and little to no ornamentation. This gives shoppers an opportunity to pick their preferred approach or mix it up throughout the season.
