Melvine Malard: Man Utd sign forward on permanent deal

Manchester United have signed forward Melvine Malard from Lyon on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan from the French club, where she was contracted until 2026, but United have exercised an option-to-buy clause in that deal.

France international Malard scored seven goals for United and was part of their 2023-24 FA Cup-winning side.

“I am very happy to make my stay here at Manchester United permanent, after this great club and this great city became my home last season,” Malard said.

“Here I felt loved. Thank you to the fans for welcoming me so well – I will do what it takes to give you even more than last season and I look forward to more winning seasons together.”

United manager Marc Skinner added: “Melvine is an excellent character on and off the pitch, with winning pedigree, who we are delighted to see join our Manchester United family on a permanent basis.

“She has already given our fans some great memories and will no doubt continue to do so in the coming seasons.”

Malard won the Champions League four times with Lyon, as well as three French league titles.

She is United’s second summer signing, after the arrival of defender Dominique Janssen from Wolfsburg.

As they look to further enhance their attacking options, United are also interested in forward Elisabeth Terland, who they are close to bringing in on a free transfer from Brighton.

Captain Katie Zelem, goalkeeper Mary Earps and forward Lucia Garcia have all left the club in this transfer window.
