As of July 25, the FSIS reported that 34 people have become sick due to the listeria outbreak across 13 states, “including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths.” This marks a significant update from its notice on Friday, when it reported two deaths and 28 hospitalizations across 12 states.

Consuming foods contaminated with listeria, the FSIS continued, can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, headaches, confusion, loss of balance, gastrointestinal symptoms, and more serious symptoms in pregnant people, including “miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.” Additionally, the infection can be fatal in older adults or for people with weakened immune systems.

Anyone who has purchased any of the Boar’s Head products is urged to not consume them and to throw them away immediately or return them to the place of purchase. If you did purchase these items and had them in your fridge, the FSIS also urged you to thoroughly clean your fridge to prevent any risk of cross-contamination.
