Walmart and Burger King Teamed Up to Offer Exclusive Membership Perks and Deals

Walmart is looking to make its Walmart+ membership look even more delicious with a brand-new partnership.

On Thursday, the big box chain announced its Walmart+ subscription service is teaming up with Burger King to give members an exclusive dining benefit. As the brand explained in a press release shared with Food & Wine, starting today, Walmart+ members (who pay $98/year or $12.95/month to be a part of the program) can snag 25% off any Burger King digital order from now on. And, starting in September, members can receive a free Whopper every three months with any purchase.

“The inclusion of a Burger King benefit in our Walmart+ membership portfolio is exciting,” Venessa Yates, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+, shared in the statement. “We consistently strive to offer benefits that focus on our members, aligning with our commitment to deliver undeniable value and convenience. We’re confident our members will welcome the additional savings, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with a trusted brand like Burger King to offer this benefit.”

As for how it chose Burger King as its newest partner, the company explained that the benefits are determined “based on member insights and are carefully curated to provide a unique and valuable experience for members.”

Importantly, this new perk will also be offered at no extra cost as a member.

“Burger King has long been known for offering Guests high-quality products for a great value – an approach that’s shared by our friends at Walmart, making this partnership a natural fit,” said Pat O’Toole, the chief marketing officer of Burger King North America, added. “We’re thrilled to join the Walmart+ program as its first-ever dining partner and look forward to providing members of Walmart+ even more savings on their flame-grilled favorites at Burger King.”

Walmart+ members can access the deal using the BK App or via bk.com. To activate it, members need to link their Walmart+ to an existing Burger King Royal Perks account (or create one for free, then link the two accounts). After that, members can go onto the BK app, select their local participating Burger King location, and add the discount to their cart when they place their order.

The partnership isn’t only great for Walmart+ members, but it could be a key move for Burger King too, which is in dire need of enticing customers back into its stores. In August, its parent company, Restaurant Brands, announced on an earnings call that same-store sales at Burger King dipped 0.1% for quarter two and that sales are likely to remain soft.

“We clearly saw softer sales than expected across our businesses in Q2,” J Patrick Doyle, the executive chairman of the company, said on a post-earnings call. “It’s not yet clear when we’ll see the category strengthen.” But perhaps the 59 million Walmart+ members can help shore things up.
