Bradley Whitford Slams Cheryl Hines for Supporting Husband RFK Jr.

Bradley Whitford is criticizing Cheryl Hines after the actress issued a statement supporting her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The former West Wing star took aim at the former Curb Your Enthusiasm star after Kennedy dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Donald Trump last week.

Hines reacted to her husband’s decision with a measured statement that did not similarly endorse Trump, but did note, “Over the last year and a half, I have met some extraordinary people from all parties — Democrats, Republicans and independents. It’s been my experience that the vast majority of all parties are truly good people who want the best for our country and for each other. It has been an eye-opening, transformative and endearing journey.”

Whitford — who supports Democratic nominee Kamala Harris — countered on X, sarcastically writing: “Hey Cheryl Hines, way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights. Gutsy. Great example for the kids. Profile in courage.”

Both Hines’ refusing to publicly criticize her husband’s Trump support and Whitford’s comment have received backlash on social media. Yet Kennedy has suggested Hines wasn’t pleased behind the scenes.

“I am so grateful to my amazing wife Cheryl for her unconditional love, as I made a political decision with which she is very uncomfortable,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). “I wish this also for the country — love and unity even in the face of disagreement. We will need that in coming times.”

Kennedy’s family, however, did publicly criticize him. Five of Kennedy’s siblings, who in a statement posted to Instagram said, “We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future, a future defined by individual freedom, economic promise and national pride. We believe in Harris and [running mate Tim] Walz. Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story.”

Kennedy previously explained he was dropping out of the race because he could not win and to not serve as a “spoiler” in battleground states. “In my heart, I no longer feel we have a path to victory,” he said. “Our polling consistently showed that by staying on the ballot in the battleground states I would be handing votes over to the Democrats.”
