FX Orders ‘The Beauty’ Series From Ryan Murphy; Evan Peters Starring
FX will be home to yet another series from Ryan Murphy.
The Disney-owned outlet has picked up a drama titled The Beauty from the prolific Murphy’s eponymous production company and 20th Television, where Murphy is based. The series, which will star Evan Peters, Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope, is based on a 2016 Image Comics title of the same title. Murphy and Matthew Hodgson (American Sports Story, 911) are credited as co-creators.
Per usual with Murphy productions, story details are being kept quiet. The graphic novel on which the series is based, by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, is set in a world where a sexually transmitted disease spreads across the world — largely because it makes people more physically attractive. Two detectives, however, stumble on a conspiracy surrounding the disease’s origins.
The Beauty is set to begin production in the fall and follows a run of recent series debuts for Murphy: FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez and Grotesquerie, Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and ABC’s Doctor Odyssey have all premiered in the past two weeks.
The new series marks another collaboration between Murphy and Peters, who have worked together on American Horror Story, Pose and the Jeffrey Dahmer-focused first season of Monster; Peters earned an Emmy nomination for playing Dahmer in the latter. He is repped by CAA, Johnson Shapiro and Slate PR.
Kutcher’s recent credits include Netflix’s rom-com Your Place or Mine, feature film Vengeance and a guest spot on That ’90s Show. He is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Sloane Offer.
Ramos is coming off of Twisters and has Disney+’s Marvel series Ironheart due in 2025. He is repped by CAA, Door 24, Laffitte Mangement Group and attorney Erik Hyman.
Pope earned an Emmy nomination for Murphy’s Netflix limited series Hollywood and has also appeared in Pose and feature film The Inspection, for which he scored a Golden Globe nomination. He is repped by WME, Door 24, attorney Michael Auerbach and Shelter PR.
Murphy and Hodgson are executive producing The Beauty with Peters, Ramos, Pope, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich and Eric Gitter.
