Savory S’Mores Are the Charcuterie Lover’s Alternative to the Classic Campfire Treat
On cold evenings, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as gathering around the fire and making some ooey gooey melt-in-your-mouth s’mores. This season, why settle for only sweet when you could have the best of both worlds?
Savory s’mores are the latest food trend that might just become a staple in your appetizer rotation—and, dare we say, you might end up liking them better than the original. Ahead, learn more about the tasty trend and how to make it at home.
What Are Savory S’mores?
In a video that has over 4.9 million views from @yoga.jessi on Instagram, yoga teacher Jess starts with a round of Babybel cheese, which she places on a skewer and turns it over the fire like you would a marshmallow. She then takes a cracker and spreads some fig chili spread on it before topping it off with a slice of prosciutto and the melty cheese round.
To transform your classic s’mores into savory s’mores, simply trade the marshmallow for a mini cheese round, the chocolate for preserves and meat, and the graham crackers for your choice of crackers or bread.
Creator Samantha Bauchmann turned the trend into a savory s’mores board, utilizing a battery-operated mini fire pit, and for fall and winter gatherings, we can’t think of a better appetizer idea.

How to Make Savory S’mores at Home
Light the fire pit, grab some skewers and your ingredients, and let’s get started. Here’s how to make this delicious appetizer at home.
Step 1: Arrange a platter with ingredients.
Start by gathering your ingredients together and arranging them on a platter. Whether you keep Babybel rounds wrapped or not is up to you; however, keeping them wrapped ensures that if you don’t use them all, none of the remaining ones will lose moisture.
It’s important to arrange your ingredients before roasting so that once your cheese is nice and toasted, you can easily grab everything you need to finish the assembly.
Step 2: Place the cheese on a skewer and roast.
Put your cheese on a skewer and position it over the fire. Consistently turn the skewer so that all sides of the cheese toast evenly. Do this until the cheese reaches your desired melty consistency and becomes a little charred.
If you want to try this trend, but don’t have a fire pit, use your oven instead. To do it, simply get out a non-stick baking sheet, place crackers down first, then spreads, meat, and then finally the cheese. Allow it to sit under the broiler for 30 seconds to a minute. Take it out, top it with another cracker, then enjoy!
Step 3: Top a cracker with your choice of ingredients.
Next, grab a cracker and top it with your choice of preserves, meat, and any other ingredients that call your name.
Step 4: Place the cheese, top with another cracker, and enjoy!
Use the skewer to place the cheese on top of the loaded cracker. Use another cracker to pull off the cheese and top off the stack. After you eat one, don’t be surprised when you want s’more!
