‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Ends Its Theater Run. How Much Did It Make?
Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice—starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega and Catherine O’Hara—has officially ended its theatrical run. How much did it make at the box office?
Following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in Italy in late August, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opened in theaters worldwide on September 6. The sequel to the 1988 supernatural comedy classic pivoted to digital streaming on premium video on demand on October 8.
As indicated by The Numbers’ weekly theater count report ahead of the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is no longer playing in theaters.
According to the box office tracker, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s final day in North American theaters was on Tuesday, November 26, where it made $3,118 in 68 venues to boost the film’s domestic gross to $294,097,060.
Coupled with the film’s international ticket sales of $155,989,501, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s final worldwide domestic box office tally ended at $450,086,561.
The Numbers reported that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had a production budget of $100 million before prints and advertising costs.
Where Does The Financial Success Of ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Rank Among Tim Burton’s Other Films?
Looking at worldwide grosses of all of Tim Burton’s feature films, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ranks at No. 3 of the director’s highest-grossing movies before inflation is factored in.
According to The Numbers, 2009’s Alice in Wonderland grossed $1.025 billion worldwide, followed by 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at $475.8 million in global ticket sales.
Following Beetlejuice Beetlejuice at No. 3 with its $450 million worldwide tally is 1989’s Batman, which earned $411.3 million following its release in theaters 35 years ago. Rounding out Burton’s top five biggest films at the box office is his 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes, which had a global gross of $362.2 million.
In comparison its sequel, 1988’s Beetlejuice had a worldwide box office take of $75.1 million.
Following The Success Of ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ Will There Be A ‘Beetlejuice 3’?
Naturally, when a film like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice experiences big success in theaters worldwide, it’s not unusual for a studio like Warner Bros. to examine the possibility of a sequel.
However, director Tim Burton already put the kibosh on the idea of a Beetlejuice 3 happening about a week before Beetlejuice 2 opened in theaters.
Using the timespan between the release of 1988’s Beetlejuice and 2024’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as a guide, Burton said the numbers weren’t in favor of another film about “The Ghost with the Most” happening.
“Well, if [the same] time frame goes on, I’ll be about 100. So maybe. I doubt it,” Burton told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s U.K. premiere on August 29.
For those who missed Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theaters, the film is still available on digital streaming via premium video on demand and recently arrived on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD.
Rated PG, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice—which is written by Burton’s Wednesday collaborators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and features a score by the director’s longtime collaborator Danny Elfman—will also make its streaming video on demand debut on Max on Friday, December 6.
