I’ve been brushing my teeth for nearly 40 years. And almost every time, I’ve used some version of mint toothpaste to get the job done. It makes sense why all the paste manufacturers stick with what they know, which is simply that when it comes to fresh breath, mint is the scent that reigns supreme. All that being said, when Boka’s latest variant—a dill pickle-flavored toothpaste—landed on my desk, I couldn’t wait to try it. Full disclosure: at first glance, I thought that it might be some sort of prank or that it was something special made for editors and not the public. But as I dug deeper, I learned it was a result of the brand’s collab with—wait for it—Grillo’s Pickles, and that it was totally legit.
The pickle-flavored paste proved to be super controversial in my office. Some people laughed, some coworkers were grossed out, and some were intrigued, but I was pumped to take it home and try it out ASAP. The company describes the taste as “briny, sweet, and tangy.” And I have to say, that hits the nail on the head. While pickle lovers (like myself) will absolutely love the briny (yet not acidic) dill burst, the wave of herby cucumber balances it out and gives you that freshness we all want post-brushing. I caught myself smiling in the mirror (I swear!) while brushing and even thinking about the paste long after leaving the sink. It’s a treat! It satisfies a craving! (Can you tell I love it?)

I’ve always taken my oral health seriously: I’ve gone to the dentist for cleanings every six months since I was a toddler and I’ve never had a cavity (brb, knocking on wood), but I’m not ashamed to admit that brushing my teeth became more of a need than a want, and sometimes I only did it in the morning (oops)—until I tried this pickle paste. After a few weeks of using it, it’s fully replaced my go-to tube. It’s also fluoride-free, like all of Boka’s paste. The company uses nano-hydroxyapatite to help remineralize teeth and support enamel health. I think the best part about the paste is how unexpected it is. If you love dill pickles or are a foodie, you’ll love it. But even if you don’t go nuts for pickles, I dare you to give it a go: the zesty flavor is delicious in a savory yet fresh way. I’ve described it to friends as “a mojito that’s not overly sweet.”
Get it while it’s hot (it already sold out on the company’s site but is available on Amazon for $13 while supplies last)! Beauty brands, take note. Could a dill cucumber gloss be next?
