The FDA Recalls More Than 2 Million Baked Goods — Including Munchkins and Other Dunkin’ Products

More than 2 million baked goods have been recalled over fears that they’re contaminated with listeria.

On Wednesday, February 5, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a recall for 60 kinds of pastries by the Indiana-based pastry wholesaler FGF Brands, which distributes baked goods in the United States and Canada. Notably, the recall includes products sold at Dunkin’ locations across the nation — in addition to grocery stores, branded under private labels.

The recall was initiated on January 7 but was upgraded to a Class II recall, which the FDA defines as “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

As for the Dunkin’ products, the recall included Just Baked Yeast Rings, Just Baked Yeast Munchkins, Just Baked Sour Cream Cake Donuts, Just Baked Coffee Rolls, and Just Baked Eclairs.

The FDA notes in its release that the recall is due to the “potential for contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeria infections are rare “but serious” — especially for “pregnant women, newborns, adults aged 65 or older, and people with weakened immune systems.” The CDC also noted that “other people can be infected with Listeria, but they rarely become seriously ill.”

The CDC added that symptoms can vary from person to person but could include fever and other flu-like symptoms, “such as muscle aches and fatigue, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, [and] seizures.”

The FDA did not issue guidance on what to do if you purchased any of the recalled items, but it typically asks consumers to discard any goods that may be contaminated to avoid potential health risks. Customers with more questions can contact FGF directly at 905-761-3333 or via email at info@fgfbrands.com. The company can also be reached through the contact form on its website.
