More Than 400 Gallons of Hot Sauce Recalled Over Possible Contamination

The FDA just announced a recall of more than 400 gallons of two different hot sauces from the fan favorite Hot Ones spicy line, due to concerns about contamination with foreign objects—specifically, pieces of plastic. The two sauces affected—Hot Ones Los Calientes Verde and Hot Ones Los Calientes Rojo—were produced by the Karma Sauce Company and had best buy dates 2027 and 2028.

The products were recalled first on February 14, but the FDA announced it as a Class II recall on March 19.

Which bottles of Hot Ones Hot Sauce were affected?

The recalled products were likely distributed in North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. They include both the Hot Ones Los Calientes Verde and Rojo styles in 5 ounce, 1 gallon, and 5 gallon sizes.

The UPC codes are UPC: 8-51444-00803-5 (for Verde) and 8-51444-00810-03 (for Rojo).

For the Verde sauces, look for the following best buy dates:

• For 1-Gallon Containers; 2/3/2028, 2/4/2028, 2/7/2028
• For 5-Ounce Containers: 2/3/2028, 2/4/2028, 2/5/2028, 2/6/2028, 2/7/2028, 2/11/2028, 2/12/2028, 2/13/2028, 12/18/2027 and 12/19/2027
• For 5-Gallon Containers: 2/7/2028

For the Rojo sauces, you’ll want to look for these best buy dates:

• For 5-Ounce Containers: 2/10/2028
• For 1-Gallon Containers: 2/7/2028

What should I do if I have the recalled product?

As with all recalls, you’ll definitely want to avoid using these Hot Ones hot sauces if you find them in your pantry or fridge. (Plastic isn’t the kind of spice you want to bring to your wings!)
