The moment Spanx unleashes a new collection, we’re more than ready to put it to the test. This time, it’s the AirEssentials Pique capsule collection, a sportier take on Spanx’s super-smooth AirEssentials range. Like many of us, I can’t resist a cozy and stylish matching set, and this textured line made from a blend of Tencel, modal, polyester, and elastane didn’t disappoint. But I can’t say I’m surprised; Spanx is a long-time editor-loved brand after all.
I got my hands on the AirEssential Pique Short, Flare Pant, and Crewneck Top in the light neutral Ashwood shade, and I think I’ve finally met my match. Aside from the expected premium softness and airy weight, each piece leans towards an athletic look, primarily due to the relaxed silhouettes paired with contrasting piping details. The fabric also has a special coating that provides UPF 50+ protection, making it optimal for a sunny day out.

I’m having a tough time ripping myself away from this ultra-cozy line. They’re typically the first pieces I set aside after laundry day, whether I’m lounging at home or making plans to go out. I’ve worn the supple AirEssentials Pique Short a couple of times, and I love the high-rise waistband and roomy fit. I typically pair them with the matching sweater, but I’ve also worn them with some of my long-sleeve basics around the house since the warm spring weather hasn’t quite hit my region yet.

I’m more drawn to the AirEssentials Pique Flare Pant, however, which you can shop in a classic navy color as well as regular, petite, and tall inseams, from sizes XS through 3X. At 5-foot-1, the size small with the petite inseam fits me perfectly. For the first time with flared lounge pants, I don’t feel like my legs are being swallowed up by any extra fabric. In most cases, I wear them with flats or sneakers, and the pant leg only skims over my shoes. Plus, I love how they’re fitted through the hip and thigh, creating a very flattering silhouette on me.

My latest closet must-have has been the AirEssentials Pique Long Sleeve Crewneck Top, AKA my most-worn top in the past few weeks. I’m often running around the house in a tank top when I realize I have some last-minute errands, and it’s so nice to be able to throw this on, feel warm, and still look more put together than I would with a typical hoodie.
When I wear the matching set, I always get questions about my outfit, but this sweater can work just as well on its own. You can also shop it in a vibrant green as well as navy. However, the light nude Ashwood color goes with the majority of my closet, which is filled to the brim with neutrals. I also prefer the waffled piqué texture as well because it makes my pieces look and feel a little more lived-in without sacrificing comfort.
If you have yet to jump on the Spanx AirEssentials bandwagon, do yourself a favor and give the Pique collection a try for spring. It includes 28 products, like sleeveless polo tops, skorts, dresses, and more. Shop a few of my other top picks below.
