Violet Affleck Reveals She Got In HUGE Fight With Mom Jennifer Garner Over THIS!

Violet Affleck just got super candid about a major fight she had with her mother Jennifer Garner earlier this year!

The revelation came in a lengthy research paper published in her school Yale University‘s Global Health Review on Sunday. In the essay, the 19-year-old recalls bickering with the actress over climate change as the family was escaping the Los Angeles wildfires in January. She wrote in the essay titled A Chronically Ill Earth: COVID Organizing as a Model Climate Response in Los Angeles:

“I spent the January fires in Los Angeles arguing with my mother in a hotel room.”

Oof. Brutal time to be having a fight!

Stress was at an all-time high for everyone in the affected areas, and Jennifer was also dealing with the loss of her close friend while keeping herself busy by volunteering with the World Central Kitchen. We bet the last thing she wanted to be doing was arguing with her eldest – who is clearly very passionate about the environment and politics!

What Violet found most frustrating was the 13 Going on 30 star’s shock by the destruction, she continued:

“She was shell-shocked, astonished at the scale of destruction in the neighborhood where she raised myself and my siblings. I was surprised at her surprise: as a lifelong Angelena and climate-literate member of generation Z, my question had not been whether the Palisades would burn but when.”

The teenager was left feeling like the odd one out as many adults she encountered had a similar reaction to her mother:

“As I chatted with adults in the hotel where we’d gone to escape the smoke, though, I found my position to be an uncommon one: people spoke of how long rebuilding would take, how much it would cost, and how tragically odd the whole situation had been. The crisis was acute, a burst of bad luck. It had come from a combination of high winds and low rains – what, my little brother asked, did global warming have to do with the speed of the wind?”

She later remarked:

“Hopefully, most of us understand the climate crisis better than my little brother.”

Burn! Violet has two younger siblings, Fin, 16, and Samuel, 13. She went on to call out the country’s “wealthiest” citizens — which she is among as the daughter of two A-listers! — for helping create the problem while also comparing the response to that of the pandemic. She mused:

“And we know that it’s anthropogenic, driven by unsustainable consumption patterns concentrated among the wealthiest citizens of the wealthiest countries, all of which have already subjected most of this country and the world to deadly temperatures, fire-flood cycles, rising seas, and dying crops. But our bewildered response to crises like the LA fires tell us we may still be accustomed to addressing the climate crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic: as a question of how fast we can get back around to pretending like the problem is gone.”

Violet’s been an outspoken advocate in support of removing mask bans in CA. It’s something she’s been incredibly passionate about, despite her parents, including Ben Affleck, trying to caution her from going all in on the public fight. It’s not something she’s willing to back down on, though.

In the essay, she argued that society has mishandled systemic crises like climate change and pandemics, especially COVID-19, treating them as individual events rather than puzzle pieces connected to the same problem. Addressing the issues that have remained after the pandemic, she pointed out:

“While vaccines have been extremely effective in reducing death rates, those of us who have never stopped ‘following the science’ know that even mild COVID infections are dangerous. The phenomenon known as Long COVID poses a threat to even the healthiest individuals.”

She fears pressures to get back to “normal” as quickly as possible rather than using science to stay ahead of the next crisis will put more lives at risk, noting:

“We haven’t treated bird flu as a serious health problem, and probably won’t until it explodes into the population with the onset of airborne human-to-human transmission, at which point – if the COVID response is our example – we’ll have lost hope of controlling it before the virus’s significantly higher mortality rate strikes a meaningful blow.”

While she’s clearly upset over all of this, she’s not completely unaware of just how privileged she is. She may not have liked having to be in that hotel room with all the “shell-shocked” LA residents, but she knows it was a luxury not everyone is afforded. Calling out the problem with relying on governmental assistance in moments of need, the young activist penned:

“The FEMA assistance quickly rushed to homeowners in the Palisades – many of whom are significant political donors – has flowed much more slowly to Asheville, North Carolina, where thousands were stranded in disastrous floods in 2024. The stringent COVID-19 precautions observed earlier in the pandemic melted away as it became known that Black and disabled people were most vulnerable to serious illness and death, and as Long COVID entered the canon of chronic illnesses ascribed to ‘hysteria’ or ‘malingering’ among their mostly-female sufferers.”

With that in mind, she insisted that “centering disability justice and refusing eugenicist logics” are “essential to climate justice strategy.” Wrapping up her paper, she expressed:

“We can ‘follow the science’ even when it scares us, instead of insisting that ‘we have to live our lives’ until those lives go up in flames.”

Whoa! You can read the full essay HERE. Violet is certainly passionate about trying to better the world! Reactions?? Tell us (below).
