One of the main concerns for the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason is building a competitive group around All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Over the past few seasons, the Bucks have struggled to be a threat in the Eastern Conference. The team has been eliminated in the first round in three straight playoffs.

This offseason, the Bucks were looking to keep Bobby Portis, Jr. Since joining the team in 2020, Portis has been a productive player off the bench and has become a fan favorite. He also finished third in the Sixth Man of the Year voting in each of the past three seasons.

On Sunday, Portis made a decision that made fans happy.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Bucks and Portis reached an agreement to sign a new deal. The bench player will stay in Milwaukee on a new three-year, $44 million contract after he declined his $13.4 million player option.

After the news was announced, Portis sent a message to the fans on X.

“IN MILWAUKEE AT THE CRIB W IT..SHOUT OUT TO THE BUCKS FOR REAL..THE JOURNEY CONTINUES..3 MORE YEARS..TALK SOON! #UNDERDOG,” Portis posted.

Portis has expressed in the past his desire to stay in Milwaukee. He has grown to love the fanbase and the organization over the past five seasons. Leading up to the new deal, the big man wasn’t sure about how his contract situation with the team would unfold.

However, the two parties found a team-friendly deal that would allow the Bucks to pursue other pieces that would strengthen the roster. Portis has averaged 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists since he started playing for Milwaukee.
