Allison Janney on Bradley Whitford West Reunion on The Diplomat

Allison Janney jumped at the chance to reunite with her “The West Wing” co-star Bradley Whitford for the upcoming third season of “The Dilpomat.”

Whitford joins the show as Todd Penn, the husband of Janney’s character Vice President Grace Penn. At the end of Season 2, Grace becomes commander-in-chief after the sudden death of President Rayburn (Michael McKean).

“I knew it was going fantastic,” Janney told me about her and Whitford’s first day on set at Thursday’s taping of Bowen Yang and Matt Bowen’s Las Culturistas Culture Awards in Los Angeles. “I knew all of them who did not know him were in for a treat of their lives because he is not only an excellent human being, he is a wonderful actor.

“He is hilarious,” she continued. “He’s really, really funny. He makes the crew laugh. He keeps everyone happy on the set.”

Janney played press secretary C.J. Cregg on “The West Wing” while Whitford was deputy chief of staff Josh Lyman.

“I don’t want to turn this into ‘The West Wing’ reunion show, but getting to work with [Whitford] and Allison Janney, and seeing them getting to work with each other again after this many years, everybody’s like, ‘We’re doing something delicious,” “The Diplomat” showrunner Debora Cahn told me a couple of days before the Las Culturistas Culture Awards after the Netflix series was nominated for two Emmys for outstanding drama series and outstanding lead actress in a drama series for Keri Russell.

Netflix has yet to announce a premiere for “The Diplomat” Season 3, but Cahn said it is expected to drop sometime in the fall.
