Author Jodi Picoult Claims Movie Adaptation of ‘Wish You Were Here’ Book Has Been Canceled for Political Reasons | Jodi Picoult, Movies, Netflix | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Acclaimed author Jodi Picoult claims that a movie version of her 2021 novel “Wish You Were Here” has been canceled for political reasons.

While Jodi doesn’t name the streamer in her TikTok video, Deadline reported in 2021 that Netflix acquired the rights to the novel with intentions of turning it into a feature film.

“Wish You Were Here” tells a story set in the COVID-19 pandemic, with a woman getting stuck on a solo vacation in the Galapagos Islands after the borders are shut down.

Jodi said in a new TikTok video that the streamer doesn’t want to make the movie any longer because of the current government administration.

“I get asked all the time, ‘Why aren’t more of your books movies?’ Well let me tell you about something that happened today,” Jodi began her video, shared on Friday (May 30).

She added, “I have a book that I wrote that has been in development since it was written in 2021. It features a storyline that takes place around COVID. And it was set up at a streamer, whose name I shall not mention, and today I found out that after four years, they have decided to cancel the project because ‘with the new regime, they don’t want to do a storyline around COVID.’”

“Now, this is what I mean when I say that even places that are considered to be very liberal, like Hollywood, are terrified of the Trump administration, because they think there’s going to be backlash if they don’t bend the knee. So I guess that means I better go out and write a book about an anti-vaxxer who is married to someone who believes Ukraine started a war against itself and have a baby who drinks raw milk. You’ll want to make that, right Hollywood?” Jodi said in her video.

Jodi is best known for her book “My Sister’s Keeper,” which was turned into a 2009 movie starring Cameron Diaz. Several of her other books have been turned into Lifetime original movies. Another one of her books had been set up as a series, but it sadly was never made either.
