Brooks Glycerin GTS 22 Sneaker Review

My year started off in an unexpected way: with a calf injury. Suddenly, I went from styling cute outfits and wearing most of the shoes in my closet to living in easy-to-move-in leggings and only wearing sneakers that matched the height of my walking boot. Of course, there’s always a bright spot even in the worst moments, and mine was discovering the Brooks Glycerin 22 sneakers.

I’m a diehard fan of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 running shoes. They have fantastic arch and ankle support, I feel like I glide when I’m running or walking in them, and they come in cute colors. In fact, I love them so much that I haven’t worn any other sneakers for a decade. So, when Brooks offered to send me a pair of its Glycerin 22 sneakers to test, I was apprehensive. I couldn’t imagine loving a pair of sneakers as much as my beloved Adrenaline style, especially while recovering from an injury. But in an ultimate plot twist, my Glycerin 22 shoes quickly became my go-to pair, and I’ve worn them nonstop for over three months.

The Brooks Glycerin GTS 22 sneakers are designed for running. While I can’t speak to that yet, I can confirm that the sneakers’ “plush cushioning” has lived up to its promise. According to the brand, the shoes are designed to provide a soft landing each time your toes leave the ground and your heel lands with your next step. As someone who has needed the softest of landings while I heal, I have to highlight that this specific feature is perfect and much appreciated.

I’ve found that the Glycerin GTS 22 sneakers have the same zero break-in period as other shoes that I’ve tried from the brand. In fact, I first slipped these on before leaving for a trip to explore EPCOT at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. My physical therapist and I cringed together when we realized how much walking I was about to do in my boot and new shoes, but I’m happy (and relieved) to highlight that I was comfortable for the entire time in my sneakers.

Although the Glycerin GTS 22 and the Adrenaline GTS 24 styles both offer the same levels of ultimate comfort and arch support, I have noticed one key difference: the Glycerin sneakers don’t have quite as much ankle support. The elastic band by the ankle reminds me of a sock, and while I love the look of it, it doesn’t offer the same amount of padding as the Adrenaline sneakers. Because ankle support is important to me when I’m running, I’m planning to keep the Glycerin GTS 22 sneakers as my go-to walking shoes. Currently, they’re my physical therapy must-haves, too.

Although I may not have paid for my first pair of Brooks Glycerin GTS 22 sneakers, I already know I’ll happily repurchase them in the future. They’re incredibly supportive and light as air, and they’re available in the same fun color combinations as other Brooks sneakers. Whether you’re recovering from an injury like I am (solidarity!) or you’re shopping for your next great pair of workout shoes, the Glycerin GTS 22 shoes are it.
