Dolly Parton is an icon, and fans would love to hear her opinions, support and critiques on a singing competition TV show like American Idol or The Voice.

However, the 79-year-old legend revealed she wouldn’t be a full time participant on either of those shows. She did guest mentor on both for short stints in the past.

Now, she’s explaining why.

“I’ve been asked to do that a lot of times,” she told E! News. “It’s too hard for me. That’s why I don’t accept it, because I know how sincere everybody is. Even if they’re not that good, they believe they are. And I just can’t hurt people.”
