We have an update on the possibility of Blue Bloods becoming a franchise.

The CBS procedural drama is currently in the midst of airing it’s 14th and final season after being canceled last fall.

Earlier this summer, there were talks of a potential spinoff in the works, and now, CBS Studios President David Stapf has shared an update on the status of a new series.

“We don’t have anything that’s going to be in development soon but it’s a brand, a title and a show that is beloved,” he told Deadline. “We’ve got to get it right so we’re taking our time and trying to figure it out, okay, what is the next iteration of Blue Bloods? We have a whole season to go where we intend to celebrate it all season long as to how good that show is, so there’s still time for us to figure that out.”

Deadline reports that Donnie Wahlberg‘s Danny Reagan was a possibility for a spinoff, but that did not materialize.

Blue Bloods is currently in the midst of airing it’s 14th season on Friday nights on CBS. The midseason finale will air NEXT Friday (July 19) and the remaining 10 episodes are set to air this fall, with the series finale taking place in December.

If you missed it, the cast just finished filming the final episodes a few weeks ago. See how they reacted!
