Chantelle Cameron says Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano may ‘run away’ after latest win
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano may “run away” from Chantelle Cameron after watching her latest victory, says the English fighter.
Cameron secured a unanimous decision against Patricia Berghult on Saturday to retain her interim WBC light-welterweight title.
The former world champion, 33, had already said that she hopes to face the winner of Taylor’s clash with Serrano for the undisputed title on 15 November.
“I think I made a big statement there,” Cameron told TNT Sports after Saturday’s win in Birmingham.
“I think that’s probably why I won’t get a shot at the belts for a long time, if they can avoid me.”
Cameron was dominant against Sweden’s Berghult, with the judges scoring it 99-91, 100-90 and 98-92 for her 20th victory from 21 professional fights.
Cameron inflicted the only defeat of Taylor’s career in May last year, only for the Irish fighter to win the rematch last November to claim her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and IBO titles.
Taylor now has a rematch of her 2022 lightweight classic with Puerto Rico’s Serrano at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas,
“I’m going to keep my eyes closely on that fight and I just hope I get the chance to fight for [the belts] again,” Cameron added.
“But I’ve got to see what’s going to happen if I don’t get that shot because it’s boxing, I may not got that opportunity again. I may be avoided and run away from after today.”
Shabaz Masoud later claimed the best win of his career as he earned a split decision against Liam Davies to claim his IBO super-bantamweight title.
One of the judges scored the fight 115-113 in favour of champion Davies, but the other two had it 115-113 and 116-112 for Masoud.
That means the 28-year-old remains unbeaten after 14 professional fights while Davies, also 28, has suffered his first defeat from 17 fights.
